The Role

The Senior Specialist, Payroll will administer and lead all payroll processing activities, manage and set up appropriate deductions, garnishments in the HRIS Dayforce, ensure accuracy with data and pay practices and will be the subject matter expert (SME) for payroll functions across all states supporting the growing organization. This role reports to the Controller.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers for payroll, deductions, garnishments, general pay related inquires or concerns and provide a positive experience to all employees, vendors and local, state or federal agencies. 
•    Own and manage the payroll inbox (email/teams) ensuring timely, accurate, and effective communication with all employees, managers, HR and the Finance team. 
•    Regularly communicated with direct manager, ensuring transparency to all daily activities, seeking support when ambiguity exists. 
•    Effectively partner with Director, People Operations to ensure all employee pay-related data is accurately entered into our HRIS platform. Troubleshoot and resolve pay discrepancies modeling a collaborative approach to problem solving. 
•    Assist with the accurate setup of new hire payroll activities approaching all situations with a solution mindset.
•    Update and maintain payroll tax reports; timely, accurately and in full compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines/laws. Ensure audit ready payroll records. 
•    Analyze and interpret federal and state payroll regulations, staying abreast of changes and updating procedures accordingly. 
•    Strong presence with the ability to motivate and inspire peers and others to achieve results. 
•    Collaborate with the Finance, Accounting, HR and business leaders needed. 
•    Other duties as assigned.

•    Flexibility and ability to pivot to new assignments, work independently with a desire to work in fast-paced environment.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
•    Solid experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience: 

•    Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
•    Minimum 5 years of experience in processing payroll in a multi-state environment.
•    Expert knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements. 
•    Minimum of 2 years of experience utilizing an HRIS, proven proficiency with Ceridian Dayforce.
